Childhood and Education
Jun was born on December 16, 1969 in Hubei, China. Before going to school, Jun spent his days near quite a rough industrial area in Wuhan, Central China. He went to Mianyang Middle School, where he graduated in 1987. Shortly after middle school, Jun attended Wuhan University as a Computer Science Student. He graduated in 1991 with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
Interestingly, Lei Jun spent most of his time reading books about the late Steve Jobs, the Founder of Apple hoping that one day he would be like him. During his school days, Jun convinced himself that he needed college education to gain the knowledge and understanding required to start a world-class business. After graduating from the University of Wuhan, Jun had only one goal: To look for a job that perfectly suited what he had learned while in school.
Career
Jun first worked at Kingsoft, one of the largest software companies in China. After working at Kingsoft for seven years, he became the President and CEO of the company. During his career as the CEO and President of Kingsoft, he went out of his way and started an online bookstore in 2000. The growth of the store was tremendous. So much, in fact, it became the best fan base for many people on the web by 2004. In 2004, Amazon expressed their interest in the bookstore and acquired Joyo.com for $75 million.
Jun was not just an employee and CEO. He was an investor too. He has invested in a number of successful startups, including Vancl.com, YY, and UCWeb. Moreover, he has funded over 70 startups for his portfolio companies. In 2007, though, Jun resigned as President and CEO of Kingsoft Inc. Because of health complication, he took the role of Vice Chairman instead. Thus, he ceased to take the responsibilities of the day-to- day functioning of the company. Two years later, in 2007, Jun founded his dream company, Xiaomi Inc, the fourth-largest Smartphone Company based in China.

Jun is a wonderful husband and also a father of two kids.

Jun is by far one of the best businesspersons in the world today. He has helped multiple companies to grow. In 1999, 2000, and 2002, he featured in the Top 10 IT figures. In 2005, he received an award as the Top 10 Figures of Gaming. China Central Television chose him as one of the Top 10 Business Leaders of 2012. Fortune brands him the most powerful businessperson in Asia.
